When you look at 2017 as a whole, it wasn’t all that great. From Trump and associates to the myriad of sexual harassment scandals, the year of the rooster was pretty bad. But it wasn’t all bad.

The single reason 2017 wasn’t the #worstyearever? I got married!

That’s right, I tied the knot with the love of my life. And we did it in Denver surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains. The trip was amazing, but what made it even more amazing was the fact that it didn't cost a dime.

Want to know who paid for it? My employer, Red Ventures.

The details:

  • I won a contest at work and the prize was free airfare to anywhere in the continental U.S.

  • My husband and I took advantage of this, using the trip to get married (we got engaged in 2016 but couldn’t afford to plan the wedding of our dreams).

  • RV found out and offered to pay for not only our airfare but also our hotel. In a fancy room. With a balcony. And a bottle of champagne with chocolate covered fruit. Bliss.

I’m grateful to work somewhere that values its employees and celebrates diversity (not sure if you’ve caught on, but this was a "two husband" kind of wedding). Not many workplaces would pay for a trip to the Rockies, but I can’t think of any other employer that would pay for an employee’s wedding.

I’m lucky to have found someone I want to be with forever, and I'm lucky to have found such a great company.

Bad news thrives our feeds, but it’s important to share the good moments. What is one good thing that happened to you in 2017?
